Dorothy Mann

UPCI/UPMC Cancer Centers Council and Committee Liaison

Dorothy Mann joined UPCI as its fifth employee, beginning her work with UPCI's founder and former director Dr. Ronald Herberman. She began as an administrative assistant in UPCI Administration/Office of the Director and later moved to the position of office manager for the Division of Hematology/Oncology where she remained for 10 years, continuing to work indirectly with UPCI and Dr. Herberman. In 2004 Ms. Mann became Administrator in the Office of the Director, working directly under Dr. Herberman and, later, with Dr. Davidson. She is the recipient of the 2001 Excellence in Administrative and Technical Support award for the UPCI. Over 21 years, Ms. Mann has witnessed the growth and expansion of UPCI first hand. Her understanding and knowledge of our history is a proven asset and she possesses a wealth of knowledge and has become an essential resource to our organization. Ms. Mann has also made significant contributions in the recruitment efforts of many of our outstanding researchers and physicians. Ms. Mann will continue to work closely with the UPCI Council to provide communications and function as a link between council members and various committees.

She is a member of the Gala Committee for UPCI and UPMC Cancer Centers and has also given many hours of volunteer time assisting with numerous events for UPCI and UPMC Cancer Centers. Ms. Mann attended the University of Pittsburgh with a major in Psychology. In her personal time, she has volunteered for the Hampton School District as well her parish St. Catherine of Sweden, Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, and Hosanna Industries. Dorothy resides in Hampton Township with her husband Scott, two children, Ryan and Megan and her pet Chihuahua.

Colleen Mantini

Government Relations Committee Liaison

Colleen McCabe Mantini serves as the Director of Government Relations for the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute/UPMC Cancer Centers. In that capacity, she is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with federal and state lawmakers to advance the UPCI and UPMC Cancer Center legislative agenda. This agenda includes UPCI’s cancer outreach funding and Tobacco Settlement funding for research at the state level as well as Medicare reimbursement for cancer care at the federal level. She also spearheaded the successful effort to obtain federal Department of Defense (DOD) and Department of Health & Human Services funding for proteomics and gynecologic diseases. To date, these projects garnered over $37 million in DOD funding.

Prior to joining UPCI in 1999, Ms. Mantini was a senior legislative analyst at the Association of American Medical College’s (AAMC) Office of Governmental Relations in Washington, DC where she was responsible for influencing Congressional action related to biomedical research.

Ms. Mantini is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Pittsburgh where she majored in political science and economics. She also holds a Master’s in Public Administration/Public Policy from Pitt’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. She was a member of Pitt’s Phi Beta Kappa honor society.

Ms. Mantini’s professional affiliations include Leadership Pittsburgh XX, the Hospital & Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania Political Action Committee Board, Association of American Cancer Institutes Legislative Committee, Association of Community Cancer Centers Government Affairs Committee, Pennsylvania Cancer Control Consortium Communications Taskforce Chairperson, Pitt Alumni Association. She resides in Ford City with her husband Roch, daughter Regina, and German Shorthair Anubis. She is an active member of that community, participating in local government and church activities

Jennifer Raetz

Development Committee Liaison

Ms. Raetz serves as the development director for the cancer initiatives underway with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) and UPMC Cancer Centers, developing and overseeing a comprehensive resource development program.

Since July, 2002, Ms. Raetz served as a major gifts officer for UPCI and UPMC Cancer Centers, where she was charged with developing a major gifts program to make a significant impact on cancer research and clinical care programs for donors at the $10,000 to $1 milllion+ levels. Under her leadership, the Circle of Hope has grown from 43 members in 2002 to 135 members currently.

A native of Rochester, New York, Ms. Raetz moved to Pittsburgh in 1994, to obtain her Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. Upon obtaining her degree in 1996, she went on to serve as the development director for two area nonprofit organizations; Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh and Easter Seals Western Pennsylvania.

Ms. Raetz is a member of the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy. Since 1996, Jennifer has served on numerous community event and advisory committees such as the Sprout Fund’s Hot House Auction Committee and as an advisory board member for Christopher’s Guest. From 1999-2004 she served as a member of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Pittsburgh’s Grants Committee.

Maryann Donovan, MA, PhD, MPH

Faculty and Spouse Recruitment Committee Liaison

Dr. Maryann Donovan completed an MA in biology in 1980, an MPH in Environmental Sciences from Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health in 1982 and a PhD in molecular genetics at Columbia University in the Department of Human Genetics and Development in 1986. In 1989, she joined the Pathology Department at the University of Pittsburgh as Assistant Professor of Pathology where she established her research laboratory and co-directed the first molecular diagnostic lab at the University of Pittsburgh/UPMC, where she developed and validated assays for leukemia and lymphoma diagnosis. In 1998 she joined a University of Pittsburgh spin-off company eventually becoming Vice President for Scientific Development. She returned to the University of Pittsburgh and UPCI in 2003. Dr. Donovan is Assistant Professor of Pathology, Associate Director for Research Services at UPCI, and the Scientific Director of the Center for Environmental Oncology of UPCI.

In her role as Associate Director for Research Services at UPCI, Dr. Donovan provides administrative oversight for the preparation of institute-wide proposals to foundations and to state and federal agencies including the National Cancer Institute cancer center support grants and provides operational oversight for 24 UPCI shared facilities. She coordinates UPCI pre-submission review and the planning and execution of faculty career development workshops. She also works closely with UPCI leadership on strategic planning activities.
