Welcome to the Brain Cancer Program of UPMC Cancer Centers. As co-directors of the Program, we hope that this site provides you with basic information about the different types of brain cancers and introduces you to the personnel and activities of the Program.
The mission of the Brain Cancer Program is to contribute to the discovery of more effective prevention strategies, diagnostic methods, treatments and symptom management for patients with brain cancer. Our objective is to provide state-of-the-art and comprehensive care for patients with these conditions.
Brain cancers take many forms and affect people of all ages and backgrounds. Comprehensive care for people with these conditions requires coordination among health care professionals from multiple disciplines. One of the most important functions for a disease-oriented program is to provide an infrastructure for these individuals and to facilitate communication among them. We believe that we are accomplishing this at the Brain Cancer Program.
We also believe that patients and their families should be informed as much as they wish to be about the disease and particularly all treatment options. We seek to not only conduct innovative and important laboratory research and clinical trials in brain cancer, but to be aware of developments around the world that might help us inform and guide our patients through a difficult time.
