UPMC Cancer Centers works in tandem with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), which comprises the academic and research activities for cancer at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC, to offer patients the latest advances in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment.
Much of the Head and Neck Cancer Program's research focuses on the biology of head and neck cancer and the factors that contribute to head and neck cancer. The researchers are involved with several investigations of vaccines and other agents to prevent cancer, and new treatments for existing cancers are also being developed and tested.
Patients seen at the Head and Neck Cancer Program have access to many innovative clinical trials, including National Cancer Institute cooperative group studies, industry-sponsored trials and unique, early phase protocols based on research conducted at UPCI. The program has increased the number of trials, meaning that our patients have access to some of the most innovative treatments available in the world.
For more detailed information on the Program's research activities, including current research, accomplishments and future directions, visit the Head and Neck Cancer Program at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
