UPMC Cancer Centers work in tandem with the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI), which comprises the academic and research activities for cancer at the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC. This offers patients the latest advances in cancer prevention, detection, diagnosis and treatment.
Patients seen at the Liver Cancer Program have access to many innovative clinical trials, including National Cancer Institute cooperative group studies, industry-sponsored trials and research conducted at UPCI.
The Liver Cancer Program's particular areas of research focus on the development of novel therapies, such as hepatic artery directed therapy. Another research focus is the investigation of liver cancer stem cells and cancer cell signaling. Our program has pioneered the use of genetic markers and minimally invasive surgery to evaluate and treat liver tumors.
Clinical and basic research is an important element of our practice as we continue to pursue more effective cancer therapy.
For more detailed information on the Program's research activities, including current research, accomplishments and future directions, visit the Liver Cancer Disease Site at the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.
