Patient Services

The Liver Cancer Program of UPMC Cancer Centers provides state-of-the-art, evidence-based care to patients with primary and metastatic liver cancer and other biliary malignancies* by combining the skills and experience of physicians and other health care professionals in an interdisciplinary manner.

* Biliary malignancies include those of the liver and bile duct, gallbladder, other biliary, extrahepatic bile duct, ampulla of vater and pancreas.

The Program’s team includes: surgeons, radiation oncologists and medical oncologists, interventional radiologists as well as other personnel from the disciplines of hematology, oncology, medicine, surgery and pathology collaborating to treat patients with primary and metastatic liver cancer and other hepatobiliary disease. This includes surgical techniques for hepatic resection, the management of hepatic metastases, and the regional perfusion of the liver with chemotherapy.

The goal of the program is to provide comprehensive care to the patient with hepatic involvement from cancer. This includes complex liver resections, local ablation treatments, long-term infusional chemotherapy treatments, and regional perfusion chemotherapy.
