Pittsburgh Mayor O'Connor diagnosed with rare form of lymphoma

PITTSBURGH, July 10 – Pittsburgh Mayor Bob O'Connor today announced that he has been diagnosed with primary central nervous system (CNS) lymphoma. Primary CNS lymphoma is a rare disease in which lymphoma cells arise in the brain or spinal cord. Approximately 800 new cases of primary CNS lymphoma are diagnosed every year in the United States.

Mayor O'Connor will undergo chemotherapy treatment through the Hillman Cancer Center. "Mayor O'Connor's type of lymphoma typically responds very well to treatment, and we are optimistic about his prognosis," said Stanley Marks, MD, director of clinical affairs at Hillman Cancer Center and Mayor O'Connor's oncologist.
