Breast Cancer Survivor and Dog Sledding Champion Deedee Jonrowe Makes a Stop in Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH, Sept. 26 – DeeDee Jonrowe, breast cancer survivor and the foremost female dog musher in the world, will be making three public appearances in the Pittsburgh area on Thursday, Oct. 12 and Friday, Oct. 13. The talks, centered on her personal experience with breast cancer, are sponsored by the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and Lilly Oncology.
Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2002, Ms. Jonrowe has both the fastest time of any woman in the history of the Iditarod and thirteen top-10 finishes in her career. An inspiration to many, she has won numerous awards for the care of her dogs throughout her career and was named honorary chairperson for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life in 2003, given for her commitment to fundraising for cancer.
Ms. Jonrowe will be speaking at the following events which are open to the public:
7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, Magee-Womens Hospital in Oakland, Zero Level Auditorium
This event, sponsored by Magee-Womens Hospital, is $10 per person and will benefit the Magee Holistic Care Center for Cancer Patients. Free parking will be provided.
