UPMC Cancer Centers Appoints New Executive Director


Terwilliger PhotoPITTSBURGH, December 11, 2008 – James G. Terwilliger, a veteran health care professional with over 20 years of diverse management experience, has been named executive director and vice president of UPMC Cancer Centers. Mr. Terwilliger previously served as vice president of operations at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside.

In his new role, Mr. Terwilliger is responsible for all clinical administration, operations and financial matters for UPMC Cancer Centers and its affiliates. He also will work closely with Charles Bogosta, president of UPMC's International and Commercial Services Division, on the international and commercial operations of the cancer centers, and Nancy Davidson, MD, recently appointed as director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute.

"Jim's diverse health care management background and his extraordinary leadership skills will have a positive impact on the services we offer to our patients and physicians," said Mr. Bogosta, who preceded Mr. Terwilliger in the position.

"Joining the UPMC Cancer Centers leadership team is extremely exciting for me," said Mr. Terwilliger. "I've had a long career in health care administration, and to join one of the most respected cancer centers in the world is a wonderful opportunity. Before joining UPMC six years ago, Mr.Terwilliger served as the chief operating officer for the University of Southern California University Hospital in Los Angeles and at the UCLA Medical Center.

Mr. Terwilliger received his BA in political science and economics from Boston University, and his master's in public health from the University of California, Los Angeles. He also completed the Executive Healthcare Management Program from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He lives in Fox Chapel with his wife, Patricia, his son, J.T., and his daughter, Grace.
