New and follow-up patients are evaluated at The Eye & Ear Institute, Suite 300, in the office of University Ear, Nose & Throat Specialists. The Eye & Ear Institute is part of UPMC.

The Oral Cancer Center's multidisciplinary approach to oral cancer care includes physicians and other personnel from the disciplines of medicine, dental medicine, surgery and pathology. Our physicians are members of the faculty of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute (UPCI) and UPMC.

Available services for oral cancer

• Histories and specialized physical examinations
• Adjunctive diagnostic services including:
• radiological imaging studies and CT, MRI and PET/CT scanning
• biopsies
• Surgical management of oral cavity cancer
• Plastic surgeons for reconstruction following tumor removal
• Oral and maxillofacial surgeons
• Medical oncology (chemotherapy and immunotherapy)
• Radiation oncology including brachytherapy (insertion of radioactive substances into the tissues of the head and neck) and intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), a powerful tool in the precise treatment of cancer
• Outstanding inpatient and outpatient nursing support
• Pain services
• Experienced social workers
• Connection with three outstanding centers:
• University of Pittsburgh Voice Center
• University of Pittsburgh Swallowing Disorders Center
• Regional Center for Maxillofacial Prosthetic Rehabilitation (specialized dental and facial appliances)
• Admission to clinical trials including gene therapy, immunotherapy, national protocols for multi-modality treatment and participation in multiple studies within the Oral Cancer Center.
