Community and Outreach Services

Part of the mission of UPMC Cancer Centers is to advance the understanding of cancer and toward that end, UPMC seeks to move beyond the walls of our hospitals and facilities and into the communities in which we serve.

Community and Outreach Services provides information about various cancers, the importance of nutrition, and the effects of smoking. The group works to increase the awareness and understanding of cancer prevention, early detection, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

  • Health fairs
    The importance of prevention and early detection of cancer, as well as the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, are emphasized at events held in a variety of settings, including hospitals, workplaces, schools and community fairs.
  • Schedule a speaker
    UPMC Cancer Centers is frequently asked to speak at various community groups or organizations on a specific topic, such as breast cancer or prostate cancer. Speakers are UPMC Cancer Centers oncology nurses and social workers. Speaker format generally includes a 30-minute presentation on the requested topic followed by audience questions. The presentation may include lecture, slides and videos, depending on the topic discussed. Literature is available for participants to take home.
