UPCI holds the highly competitive Specialized Program of Research Excellence (SPORE) grant for lung cancer research from the National Cancer Institute. Through the grant, investigators are studying:
The Lung Cancer Program actively participates in multiple clinical trial consortiums, including the American College of Surgeons Oncology Group (ACOSOG); the Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG); the California Cancer Consortium–Pittsburgh (CCC-P); and the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group (RTOG), with faculty serving in leadership positions in all of these groups.
Through the Georgia Cooper Lung Research Registry, a lung cancer database and blood repository, physician-researchers are working to develop a reliable screening test for lung cancer.
