Patient Care

Trilogy™

The Trilogy™ system, developed by Varian Medical Systems, represents the future of radiation therapy technology. Trilogy utilizes many of the newer imaging methods and forms of radiation therapy, making it possible to use many forms of treatment in one time and place.

Trilogy employs image-guided treatment, making it possible to localize images of the tumor at all times throughout treatment; the imaging systems can generate CT scans from the treatment couch in only a few minutes. Additionally, another of Trilogy's imaging modules, SonArray™, can take ultrasound images of the prostate and pancreas; these images can then be combined with other images of the cancer to get an extremely accurate picture of the cancer and its response to treatment.

Trilogy can also deliver a number of treatment options. Trilogy can deliver 3D conformal radiation therapy, IMRT, cone-based stereotactic radiosurgery, fractionated stereotactic radiation therapy, and IMRS. The treatment couch is moveable by remote control, which speeds up treatment for the patient while maximizing the number of beam angles that can be used in treatment. It also supports gating for tumors that shift within the body, such as tumors of the lung.

Triology is presently only available at the Mary Hillman Jennings Radiation Oncology Center location.
