Surgical Oncology
Dr. Geller is a Professor of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, and Co-Director of the newly developed UPMC Liver Cancer Center. As a hepatobiliary and liver transplant surgeon at the Starzl Transplant Institute, his clinical interests center on the evaluation and management of patients with liver cancers. He is focusing on novel and minimally invasive approaches for the treatment of liver cancer. He has particular operative expertise in performing laparoscopic liver resections and laparoscopic radiofrequency ablations of liver tumors. Dr. Geller is a member of many professional and scientific societies including the Society of Surgical Oncology, Society of University Surgeons, and the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.
Dr. Geller has published 110 scientific papers and chapters. He is often a guest lecturer speaking on the management of liver tumors and has presented at more than 100 meetings or seminars. He has research grants from the NIH and is also the recipient of the George H.A. Clowes, Jr., MD, FACS, Memorial Research Career Development Award from the American College of Surgeons. His research interests include transcriptional regulation of the human iNOS gene, molecular mechanisms of liver injury, and gene therapy for liver cancer. Dr. Geller was featured in Pittsburgh Magazine in 1999 as one of the "40 Under Age 40" Professional Leaders in Pittsburgh.
