Surgical Oncology
Dr. Shende joined UPMC’s Heart, Lung, and Esophageal Surgery Institute (HLESI) in 2006. She is an assistant professor of surgery at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and director of Thoracic Services at Magee-Womens Hospital.
Dr. Shende’s surgical interests include surgery for benign and malignant conditions of the lungs, esophagus, and medi- astinum. She also specializes in minimally invasive repair of chest wall deformities, such as pectus excavatum. Dr. Shende has extensive experience with pectus surgery (Nuss procedure) in adults and children and also with surgery for hyperhidrosis. She has special interest in educating medical students and residents.
Dr. Shende trained in general and cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ)/New Jersey Medical School. She completed her advanced thoracic surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., and has since practiced at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
