Surgical Oncology
Dr. Bonaventura received her medical degree in 1982 from West Virginia University, where she had previously graduated Magna Cum Laude in Nursing. She completed her residency training at UPMC in General Surgery, and fellowship training in Pediatric Surgery at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh. Having specialized in breast oncology, Dr. Bonaventura has given numerous presentations on this topic, and has served as the Co-Chair of the American Cancer Society's Breast Cancer Detection Awareness Program since 1993. Her expertise in this area accompanies her interest in breast cancer research. Dr. Bonaventura's service tenures include her position as Chief of Surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital from 1997-2000. She has served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh's School of Medicine since 1995, as well as Assistant Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine from 1995 through 1997. Dr. Bonaventura has been awarded grants for her research and she has also provided numerous presentations throughout the state.
