Physician Biography: Dr. Howard Edington

Surgical Oncology

Dr. Edington is the Associate Surgical Director of the University of Pittsburgh Cancer Institute's Melanoma Center, Associate Professor of Surgery at UPMC in the Divisions of Plastic Surgery and Surgical Oncology, Director of Fellowship at UPMC Surgical Oncology Fellowship, Associate Director of the University of Pittsburgh's Wound Healing and Limb Preservation Center, Associate Professor of Dermatology at the University of Pittsburgh's Department of Dermatology, Chief of Surgery at Magee-Womens Hospital, and Director of Breast Surgery at the Comprehensive Breast Center, also at Magee. Dr. Edington completed his surgical training in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery at the Hospitals of the University Health Center of Pittsburgh, and completed his Fellowship in Surgical Oncology from the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Edington is a member of several professional and scientific societies including the Pittsburgh Cancer Institute, American Association for the Advancement of Science, The Greater Pittsburgh Plastic Surgery Society, Plastic Surgery Research Council, The Wound Healing Society, The Society of Surgical Oncology, The Society for Biological Therapy, and American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons. Dr. Edington holds the US Patent, "Methods for Promoting Wound Healing and Treating Transplant-Associated Vasculopathy." He has been awarded numerous grants, and has had extensive research experience in the fields of Plastic Surgery and Anthropology, Surgical Oncology, Molecular Genetics, and Biochemistry Immunotherapy. Dr. Edington is well known both domestically and abroad for the nearly one hundred lectures he has given in the areas of Surgical Oncology, Plastic Surgery, and Dermatology.
