Surgical Oncology
Peter F. Ferson, MD, is a Professor of Surgery for the Division of Thoracic Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He specializes in all areas of thoracic oncology (lung cancer, mediastinal malignancies, and esophageal cancer) and the endoscopic and open surgical management of benign and malignant tracheo-bronchial diseases. Dr. Ferson is a member of professional and scientific societies, including The Society of Thoracic Surgeons, American College of Surgeons, and the General Thoracic Surgery club.
Dr. Ferson completed his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University in 1969. He received his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh. In 1979, Dr. Ferson completed his residency at Pitt and is board certified in General Surgery and Thoracic Surgery. His primary Clinical and academic activities at the University of Pittsburgh are in the Division of Thoracic Surgery. In addition, Dr. Ferson is Chief of Thoracic Surgical services at the Pittsburgh Veterans Administration Hospital.
