Surgical Oncology
Dr. Schraut graduated with his MD from Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich, Germany in 1970. From there, he stayed in Munich for his rotating internship at University Hospitals and also for his cardiovascular research at Ludwig-Maximilians University. Proceeding, he came to the United States where he became a research associate at Sanai Hospital of Detroit, Michigan and a resident in general surgery and a fellow in cardiovascular surgery at The University of Chicago Hospitals & Clinics. Dr. Schraut held the positions Assistant Professor of Surgery, Associate Professor of Surgery, and Associate Professor of Surgery with tenure at The University of Chicago and now holds the Professor of Surgery position at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He holds memberships in many professional and scientific societies that include America's Outstanding Professionals, The Vector Medical Advisory Board, The European Society for Surgical Research, and The American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. Schraut has almost 150 publications, over 20 book chapters and proceedings of conferences and symposia, over 50 abstracts, and over 100 presentations in all parts of the world during his tenures. He has been an active teacher since 1979 where he has taught many physicians through his basic science laboratory.
