Orthopaedic Cancers

Musculoskeletal oncologists at UPMC Cancer Centers have expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the skeleton, pelvis, extremities, or other soft tissues. We specialize in the treatment of diseases such as osteosarcoma, Ewing’s sarcoma, liposarcoma, malignant fibrous histiocytoma, metastatic disease, and other musculoskeletal tumors.

UPMC surgeons have particular expertise in a number of highly specialized technologies, including minimally invasive surgical procedures, with the goal of enabling prompt return to function. In many cases, our surgeons have helped to develop or refine these cutting-edge methods, including:

  • minimally invasive diagnostic techniques
  • limb salvage surgery for malignant bone or soft tissue sarcomas
  • pelvic surgery with specialized pelvic reconstruction
  • joint reconstruction after primary or metastatic disease
  • treatment of metastatic disease to the skeleton
